Pros and Cons of Working from Home

Working from home is a dream for some and dreaded by others. Just like everything else working from home comes with its benefits and with draw backs. I currently work from home and can say this is true from experience. For me personally I enjoy working from home, the benefits are numerous but there are definite disadvantages about working from home.

An article from Forbes has three pros and cons of working from home. The third con they say,” It’s harder to separate your private life from your business life” This strikes true for me. When your home is your work place you might feel like you never leave work. Especially when it is crunch time, when projects need to be finished it is very tempting to work continuously.

I get stuck in this trap as well when you are working from the time you wake up till you drop, putting in 16+ hour days. While this is productive and work is getting done the disadvantage is this strains you both mentally and physically. It may be difficult to impose rules for yourself but you will be better off for it.

An article on Hubstaff does a wonderful job exploring the disadvantages of working from home. While the article focuses more broad topic of employees working from home in larger companies, I am the only employee, I own and operate J&J Recycling. Thus my perspective differs. All the while still an article worth checking out.
