What is Personal Branding?

Personal branding is well known although often misunderstood. If you were to look for more information about a person nowadays we would run a google search. We want to develop our online platforms so that when people search you they find your personal brand. in the social digital world consists of social media platforms.

In an article on Gallup they say, “Blaise James explained his theory of self-branding. Your personal brand isn’t a couple of adjectives, and it shouldn’t be a résumé either. It should demonstrate your authentic talents and strengths. Your self-brand is integral to your career and your life — and it influences your long-term career strategy and development.”

From an article on Forbes they report, “So what is a personal brand?  A personal brand is the total experience of someone having a relationship with who you are and what you represent as an individual; as a leader. Every time you are in a meeting, at a conference, networking reception or other event, you should be mindful of what others are experiencing about you and what you want others to experience about you.    Each of these engagements is similar to a job interview – expect in these cases you are being evaluated by your peers.  Those who know how to live and manage their personal brand will earn their respect in any situation.

To me personal branding is the same as it has always been with the addition of needing an online presence for your personal brand. Your personal brand is to show people who you are while also showing your values and credentials for your profession. A key point from the Forbes article is that your online and in person your brand needs to be consistent.
